five/6 Hotel Splendour review

Zhuang Jia Wen

I wanted a hotel that was outside the main tourist zones but still accessible. five/6 Hotel in the Joo Chiat neighborhood fit the bill with its charming shophouse architecture and bright, cheery decor.

The nearby Eunos MRT would make getting around easy.

Table of Contents

Pros

  • Vibrant Design: The hotel is gorgeously done up in an eclectic mix of Peranakan patterns, birdcages, floral motifs and pops of turquoise. A real feast for the eyes.
  • Rooftop Lounge: The rooftop lounge offers fabulous 360 degree views of the Joo Chiat shophouses. It’s an amazing spot for taking photos day or night.
  • Helpful Staff: The receptionists were warm and welcoming. They had great tips on exploring Joo Chiat’s Peranakan culture, cafe scene and street art.
  • Quieter Location: Away from the city center hustle and bustle, Joo Chiat offers a nice local neighborhood vibe while still being quite central.

Cons

  • No Restaurant: There is no restaurant onsite besides breakfast. But Joo Chiat has many charming cafe options just steps away.
  • Staircase Access: There’s no lift so accessing the 2nd floor rooms requires using stairs. Not ideal for those with mobility issues.
  • Compact Rooms: Rooms follow a shophouse layout so can feel a bit snug. But the decor makes up for it.

Conclusion

For a colorful, Instagram-worthy stay in one of Singapore’s coolest up-and-coming districts, look no further than five/6 Hotel Splendour.

Beyond just visual appeal, the helpful staff and local vibe enhanced my Singapore experience. I’d happily return and recommend to design-minded travelers looking for a unique boutique hotel choice.
