Is the Singapore visa free for Iran citizens?

Goh Jun Cheng

All Iranian citizens must obtain a proper visa before traveling to Singapore.

There are several types of visas available:

Visit Visa

A visit visa allows for stays of up to 30 days in Singapore for purposes like tourism, visiting family or friends, or business meetings. Visit visas must be sponsored by a local contact in Singapore.

Work Visa

For Iranians looking to work in Singapore, even for a short period, a work visa is required. These are tied to a specific employer. The company must demonstrate why a foreign worker is needed and apply for the visa on the individual’s behalf.

Student Visa

Iranian citizens accepted to study at an educational institution in Singapore need to apply for a student visa. This requires acceptance from the school, evidence of financial support, and other documentation.

Other Visas

There are also visas available for medical treatment, permanent residence, and other specific purposes. The requirements vary based on the type.

Visa Application Process

To obtain any type of Singapore visa, Iranian applicants must go through the following steps:

  • Submit an online visa application form via the VisaGov Visa Application Portal. This will require uploading documents like a passport copy and proof of financial means.
  • Pay the visa application fee. This is generally around $30 SGD.
  • Provide biometric data at the Singapore Visa Application Centre. This includes fingerprints and a digital photograph.
  • Wait for visa processing. Approval often takes 7-14 days.
  • Pick up the approved visa from the Visa Application Centre.
  • Review visa conditions. There may be limitations on activities, length of stays, and number of entries.

Traveling to Singapore

Once Iranian citizens have obtained the appropriate visa, they can begin planning their trip to Singapore. It’s recommended to book accommodations and flights in advance.

Upon arrival at Changi Airport, travelers will need to present their passport, visa documentation, return ticket, and filled-out disembarkation card to clear immigration.Visitors should also have travel insurance and enough money to cover their stay.

During their time in Singapore, visa holders should carefully follow all visa conditions to avoid problems. Overstaying a visa can result in fines, jail time, and even future entry bans.

Long-Term Stays or Permanent Residence

While Iranian tourists can only remain in Singapore for up to 30 days on a visit visa, there are options for longer-term stays or even permanent residence.

Some long-term and permanent visa options include:

  • Employment Pass: For foreign professionals working in Singapore. Allows stays up to 3 years based on contract renewals.
  • S Pass: For mid-level skilled staff. Also allows stays up to 3 years.
  • Entrepass: For foreign entrepreneurs planning to start businesses in Singapore. Valid for up to 2 years.
  • Permanent Residence: For those who want to settle in Singapore long-term. Allows 20-year stays with re-application.

Gaining permanent residence or citizenship in Singapore as an Iranian citizen involves a complex application process. Hiring an immigration lawyer is recommended for guidance.

Factors like economic contributions, good character, language skills, and family ties in Singapore are considered. Approval is not guaranteed.

Conclusion

Iranian citizens unfortunately do not enjoy visa-free entry to Singapore. A proper visa fitting the travel purpose must be obtained in advance through an application process. With the right visa secured, Iranians can then visit and experience Singapore’s amazing sights and cultures. Those interested in long-term stays have pathways like skilled worker visas or permanent residence to consider as well.
