Is the Singapore Visa Free for Belgian Citizens?

Goh Jun Cheng

Belgian passport holders are able to visit Singapore without a visa for up to 30 days, according to the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This applies only for tourism and social visit purposes. Those planning to work, study, or live in Singapore will need to apply for the appropriate long-term visa.

Length of Visa-Free Stay

The visa waiver allows Belgian citizens to remain in Singapore for up to 30 days from the date of entry. This duration includes the day of arrival. For example, if you arrive in Singapore on May 1st, you must depart by May 31st. Extending your stay beyond 30 days requires applying for a proper visa.

Travel Purposes Allowed

During the visa-free period, Belgians can visit Singapore for tourism, social visits, or business meetings. However, you are not permitted to take up long-term employment or establish permanent residence. Engaging in any research, employment, or missionary work requires a formal visa application.

Applying for a Visa

If you need to stay in Singapore longer than 30 days or intend to work, study, or immigrate, you will have to apply for the appropriate long-term pass or visa. Some of the common visa types include:

Employment Pass

For foreign professionals working in managerial, executive, or specialized jobs. Applicants must meet salary and qualification criteria.

EntrePass

For foreign entrepreneurs wanting to start and operate a business in Singapore. You’ll need a viable business plan and investment capital.

Student Pass

For international students enrolled full-time in local education institutions. Required documents include admission letter, financial documents, and academic transcripts.

Permanent Residence

For foreigners who want to live long-term or permanently in Singapore. You must be a skilled worker or investor to qualify.

Conclusion

Belgian citizens can enter Singapore visa-free for tourism or social visits of up to 30 days. Longer stays or travel for business, employment, study, or residence will require applying for a proper visa. Check requirements carefully and submit applications well in advance of travel.

With proper documentation, Belgians can enjoy convenient access to one of Asia’s most thriving hubs.
